I work exclusively in coloured pencils, drawing on drafting film, to create realistic artworks. I use professional, lightfast materials to ensure lasting quality. The wax and oil-based pigments, in the coloured pencils, allow me to build rich colour and fine details through careful layering. I study each reference photograph closely to capture the unique character and individual feature of every subject.

Photos
I’m sure you have 100’s of photos of your pet, but which one would you select for a portrait? Choose a photo that captures your pet’s personality and character. It should be in focus and well-lit. If you have multiple options, I’m happy to help you decide which one will work best. In fact, having multiple photos can help, for example one photo may be the best composition, but the eyes might be in shadow. Another photo might have very clear eyes, but the composition is not working. I find the key to a good portrait is the eyes, so I would always recommend having at least 1 clear photo of the eyes. Usually the full head or bust portraits work best.
Timescale
For most portraits I require to do a minimum of 20 hours drawing. We will agree a start date (to fit in with my other work & your deadline, if applicable) and then I allow at least 3 weeks per subject. If you are commissioning the portrait for a special event, such as a birthday, anniversary, etc, please let me know in advance to ensure I am able to meet the deadline.
